Aspirational Metrics – Taking the Crown @Foursquare

Written by Mark Ghuneim | Posted on: July 19th, 2010

Doing my first hand research around location based behavior I have experienced attaining and loosing mayoral crowns to places that are meaningful to me. Becoming a mayor of a venue has gone from meaningless to status in the course of a year.

It made me wonder what the balance looked like system wide on Foursquare. The new version of Trendrr (TV3) made that a snap and we processed the fire-hose to see what it looked like.

The majority of crowns (or mayoral wins) exceed by a fair margin the ones being lost. (see below Trendrr graph)

That balance helps make the behavior of attaining status with-in reach. Just the right distance away for the game to play-out with out total user frustration and continue to drive aspirational game mechanics on Foursquare

FTW
