Foursquare / Facebook Places Mobile Social Networks/LBS Metrics

Written by Mark Ghuneim | Posted on: September 15th, 2010

@markghuneim Wiredset

I wanted to start to look at the metrics around location based social networks. We recently added several of these new services (Foursquare, Gowalla) into our Trendrr tools for managing social and mobile media campaigns and thought it was a good time to explore some of the unique aspects of these services as well as traditional metrics like reach and engagement.

A good example is this illustration on how when someone/thing checks-in to a location the information gets telegraphed through social networks. If you are working with these types of tools, services, campaigns etc I would love the feedback on these initial thoughts on the space.

New Twitter

Knocks it out of the box and into a more fluid UI. More fluid UI makes for an more enriched user experience. Photos and videos in stream, home pages more flushed out and positioned for monitization. Lists and re-tweets, trending tweets all easier to access. The majority of these features have been feature differentiators on third party applications.

This is the first time they are native in the web based Twitter client. It should be noted that only the web client of Twitter has changed. The ipad/iphone applications are the same.

This build more closely resembles they UI of the ipad Twitter application or Flipboard.
